Part 1 Instructions
The following is a list of words that relate to internship and the workplace. You will do three things with each word: 1)Write the word in your native language 2)Write the definition 3)Write a sample sentence for each word. If you already know the meaning of the word, you do not need to look it up in the dictionary- just write down the definition. If you do look the words up in the dictionary, make sure you are choosing the definition that relates to the workplace. Write all definitions in your own words.

Definition: If you are enthusiastic about something, you show how much you like or enjoy it by the way that you behave and talk.
Sentence: Yousef was enthusiastic about his new internship and worked very hard as a result.

Part 2 Instructions - Due Friday May 7th
Your internship site is rich with new vocabulary words and/or phrases. One internship goal is to further develop your English language proficiency. By now you have probably heard many words at your internship that are new to you. Write down at least five new vocabulary words or phrases that relate specifically to your internship site. Listen closely to the words your mentor or co-workers use to figure out what words are important to know.

For each word/phrase, you will do three things: 1)Write the word/phrase 2)Define the word (If it's a phrase, then describe the meaning of the phrase) 3) Describe the context in which you learned about the word. Write all definitions in your own words.

EXAMPLE:
Word: Jailbroken

Meaning: Jailbroken refers to a computer hardware device that has been hacked or broken into.

Context: My internship mentor used this word while she was talking to a coworker about new technology and some of the problems people encounter.

TITLE: MIDPOINT REFLECTION

How has the internship been the same as and/or different than your expectations?

What is similar and different about the culture of your internship workplace environment compared to IHSL's school environment? Provide examples.

What new skills have you learned that you can apply at other jobs? For example, have you learned to become a better typist? If so, how and where could that skill help in the future?

What kind of relationship do you have with your mentor and co-workers?

How have you grown as a result of interacting with professional adults?

What kinds of communication skills have you gained? Specifically, how has your English improved since beginning internship?

What other kinds of skills/abilities have you gained so far? Think of the tasks you do and consider the abilities required to do those tasks.

What challenges have you have overcome and how did you do it?

How has the altered schedule affected you? How have you reorganized your time to make sure you are getting all your classwork done?
You have six and a half weeks of internship left. What goals do you hope to accomplish during the remaining weeks? Name at least two.

What new things have you learned about New York City as a result of being "out and about"?

Provide detailed examples for all questions and edit for spelling, punctuation, and grammar.Remember that your blog will be read by a large audience including school faculty, your mentors, and other adults.

Post 2 - Four weeks into internship - Due Friday March 25

PART 1
What is the full name of your internship site?

What is your job title (if you don't know, speak with your mentor this week and decide on one)?

What kind of service does your company provide? For example, if you work at an elementary school, your site provides an education to young people.

What are three tasks that you do regularly at your internship site?

Name three qualities that you have noticed about your mentor in the last four weeks. Choose one of these qualities and give an example of how your mentor shows this quality.

What are some of the highlights or memorable moments of your first three weeks?

What is something that you really enjoy about the internship?

What is the most challenging part of the internship?

PART 2
Please answer some logistical questions...

What is the name of neighborhood that your site is located in?

At approximately what time do you leave school each day?

How long does it take you to get to your internship?

When do you arrive at home each day?

What is your schedule? (What days do you work and for how long each day?)

Who is the person (or persons) that sign your time card? (Your mentor and any additional person)

Part 3 - Extra Credit

How have the third and fourth weeks of internship been different from the first two? Answer in a paragraph.

Post 1 - First Two Weeks Due Friday March 19th

Congratulations for completing two weeks of internship. You must be learning a great deal. Like you, I'm excited to meet your mentors and coworkers and begin to focus on your goals for the internship.

For your very first blog post, follow the instructions and complete parts one and two. Both are due by Friday March 12th. Make sure to write in complete sentences and take care to edit and proofread for correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and verb tense. Your blog will be read by many others so make sure it represents your best work.

PART 1

Make a list of three questions you are having about your internship so far. Don’t be afraid to ask any question. You can address your questions to me or to your mentor.
